Multiagency collaboration is fundamental to effective emergency management, yet little is known about what impacts collaboration between stakeholders in the human-animal interface in emergencies. Such measures will enable scholars from many disciplines to collaborate with professionals, government officials, and others to tackle challenges of the urban disease paradox and create more sustainable, health-promoting environments. This view should be coupled with an Ecology with Cities approach which emphasizes actionable science needed for urban planning, management and policymaking developing disease and vector surveillance programs using citizen and community science methods and improving education and communication actions that help diverse stakeholders understand the complexities of urban disease ecology. To address this contradiction, we advocate a holistic Urban One Health perspective for managing urban systems, especially their green spaces and animal populations, in ways that more effectively control the spread of zoonotic diseases. Therefore, urbanization creates a disease ecology paradox through the interplay of urban health penalties and advantages for individual and community outcomes. On the other hand, urban living can contribute to the improvement of public health through better access to health services and creation of ecological and technological infrastructure that reduces disease burdens.

Several characteristics contribute to the emergence and spread of infectious diseases in urban places, such as high human population densities, favorable habitat for vectors, and humans’ close proximity to animals and their pathogens.

But Picasso never really said that.The ecology of zoonotic, including vector-borne, diseases in urban social-ecological systems is influenced by complex interactions among human and environmental factors.

The classroom discussion helped us steal other people's ideas. SO WHAT: The strangest thing about all of this is how I started to notice more similarities and differences between the first two stories after introducing a third story. This is why our product looks very similar to everyone else's. During the classroom discussion on all 3 stories, Mark and I wrote more key words and phrases directly into Canva. Then we read Country Lovers and worked on it some more. Philpot asked us to fill out the diagram after we read Finkelstein 5 and The Lottery. We will be writing a comparative essay on two of the three texts as an end of the unit assessment, and this will help me prepare. WHY: I wanted to create a Venn diagram to help me see the similarities and differences between the three short stories that we read. WHAT: Here is the 3-way Venn diagram that I created in response to The Lottery by Shirley Jackson, The Finkelstein 5 by Nana Kwame Andjei-Brenya and Country Lovers by Nadine Gordimer.
